Healthcare Research Compliance Certification® (CHRC®)

Want to Become Certified in Health Care Research Compliance® (CHRC®)?

CHRC® certification may be your missing piece as a research compliance professional!

Step 1 QUALIFY
CHRC® candidates must meet two eligibility requirements before sitting for the exam: Work Experience and Continuing Education.

• Work Experience: candidates must fit into one of the two work experience categories:

• Compliance Professional: Persons with one year of full-time compliance experience
• Allied Compliance Professional: Persons with at least 1,500 hours/two years of compliance related experience

• Student Option: Students completing a certificate program at an HCCA's accredited university are eligible for the exam upon completion, waiving the work experience requirement
• Continuing Education: Candidates must obtain 20 CCB Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the 12 months prior to sitting for the exam (a minimum of 50% must be from LIVE meetings)

Step 2 PREPARE
How can you prepare for the CHR® exam? HCCA faculty suggest the following:

Review the CHR® Candidate Handbook, focusing on the detailed content outline

Read The The Healthcare Compliance Professional's Manual, and The Research Compliance Professional's Handbook (available for purchase)

Take the CHRC® practice exam

Attend an HCCA Academy: designed to complement your work experience and help you do well on the exam, this week-long conference fulfills the 20 CCB CEUs requirement, reviews the basics of healthcare compliance, and offers the CHRC® exam on-site

Review the Federal Sentencing Guidelines

Step 3 TEST
Candidates who have met the eligibility requirements may schedule their exam. The CHRC® exam is offered on-site at many HCCA conferences (application on specific event's page), as well as at local H&R Block locations (application in the CHRC handbook).

Step 4 MAINTAIN
Once certification is obtained, you are eligible to use your credentials for a two-year certification period, starting from when you pass the exam. At the end of the two-year certification period, you must submit the information below to maintain your certification. Failure to submit the appropriate documentation prior to your certification period expiration date will result in a lapse in your certification and your only option will be to retest:

  1. Submit the Renewal Application either by faxing or mailing the PDF form or submitting the web form.
  2. Presenting 40 CCB approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
  3. Renewal Fee ($100/members and $200/non-members) Suggested methods for earning the required 40 CCB approved Continuing Education Units Include:

•  Attend one of many educational HCCA events ranging from one to four daysearn CEUs and network with your peers
•  Publication review: CEUs are available for quizzes based on comprehension of Compliance Today, and The Report on Medicare Compliance, as well as quizzes based on select HCCA books (please note: a maximum of 50% of your CEUs may come from this source)
•  Attend a CCB-accredited event click here for a roster of approved accredited events
•  Submit non-HCCA events for accreditation consideration
•  Submit presentations or published articles
