The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 provided
major opportunities to improve the nation’s health care through
health information technology (HITECH) by promoting and advancing the
use of electronic health records (EHR). Incentive payments have been
offered to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, critical access
hospitals (CAHs), and certain Medicare Advantage Organizations
participating in Medicare and Medicaid programs that adopt meaningful
use of “certified EHR technology.”
DHHS has just released the Final Rule specifying the initial
incentive program criteria and determining the definition of
“meaningful use of certified EHR technology.” Compliance
officers will play a critical oversight role in overseeing and
certifying that their organization successfully demonstrates meaningful
use of “certified EHR technology. This Webinar will:
- Provide an overview and discuss the fundamental features of the new
rule
- Present the calculation of the incentive payment amounts and payment
adjustments for failing to demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR
technology
- Provide an effective and practical method for demonstrating your
organization’s compliance with the meaningful use criteria
- Promote a responsible set of actions to maintain awareness and
measurement of your compliance status
- Share the detailed recommendations for implementation of the
meaningful use criteria as analyzed and interpreted by a national
workgroup to assist your organization in meeting DHHS’
requirements and qualifying for the incentive funding
- Highlight Congress’ recognition that new types of technology
to communicate, transmit and manage health information were not subject
to the patient privacy and security protections mandated under HIPAA,
resulting in a broadening of the law
Further, this webinar will provide an opportunity for you to ask
questions from those who have been deciphering, in detail, the
“meaningful use” criteria since their initial release in
January 2010.
