HCCA 2013 Compliance Staff Salary Survey available online
Minneapolis, Minn.---August 15, 2013— The 2013 Compliance Staff Salary Survey data, just released by the Health Care Compliance Associations (HCCA), offers a comprehensive look into the health care industry’s compliance department staff annual salaries. With this data, health care organizations and individuals may now compare their salary with peers.
“The data in the survey demonstrates the maturity of the compliance profession. We are seeing that salaries are related, as they should be, to organizational and program size, as well as the level of the individual compliance professional,” said HCCA Chief Executive Officer Roy Snell.
According to the data, compliance professionals holding the Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) certification tended to earn higher average compensation compared to those with other certifications or no certifications. However, this was not the case for Vice President level survey respondents, due to their concentration in privately held and smaller organizations, where compensation tends to be lower.
Compensation for compliance professionals with CHC certification with the title of ‘Director’ was about 20 percent higher than peers with no certification, those with ‘Manager’ title was 23 percent higher than peers with no certification, compensation for compliance professionals with the title of ‘Assistant’ or ‘Specialist’ and CHC certification were seven percent higher than their peers without certification. When compared with peers having another kind of certification, compensation for CHC certified ‘Directors’ was 22.57 percent higher, while CHC-certified ‘Managers’ was 11 percent higher and CHC-certified ‘Assistants’ or Specialists’ was 6.55 percent higher.
The CHC certification is by far the most popular certification according to the data. The survey reveals that 83 percent of respondents with the title of ‘Vice President’ hold the CHC certification, as does 73 percent of those with ‘Director’ title, 61 percent with ‘Manager’ title, and 57 percent with ‘Assistant or Specialist’ title.
“The numbers show that employers value compliance professionals with the demonstrable level of expertise that comes from earning the Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) ® designation,” said Snell.
About the survey
The data is aggregated to help individuals and organizations compare their own data to the results of similar operations; these groupings include, but not limited to: title/level, compliance responsibilities, number of direct reports, annual compliance budget, advance degrees, and certifications held.
The compensation data was collected during the second quarter of 2013 from 813 compliance professionals who work in the health care industry.
